Leeds is home to one of the best museums this author has ever visited – the Royal Armouries. Contained within the walls of this world-class attraction is a stunning array of swords, guns, suits of armour, and other articles of weaponry. The museum features weapons not only from the British Isles but also from around the world. Of particular interest is the Hall of Steel, the central tower of the museum building in which over 2,500 pieces of weaponry are beautifully displayed. Other equally engaging exhibits are the Oriental Gallery, with its collection of pieces from Turkey to Japan, and the Tournament Gallery, which in addition to displaying weapons from medieval Europe occasionally hosts ‘tournaments’ of knights in armor. For this American, the Royal Armouries at Leeds is a fascinating glimpse into the cultures and practices of other nations during times of war. A visit with Leeds escorts is highly recommended.
